Dear All DBA,
I have to tune a Database of 8 GB. It is a Database on Oracle 8i on Sun solarise.
I have not done any tuning earlier. I don't know from where i should start.
First I want to tune SGA then the SQL tuning.
This is a dedicated sever on which more then 150 user work simultaneously.
On some report the server is very slow. The RAM size is 2 GB.
Please guide me the steps of tuning and some Document on tuning.
Thanking you.
Regards
Daya Shankar

Hi,
Well as per ur condition u should check the queries very first for the reports where performance is not good, after that u should go for the memory tuning.
After tuning the query part u can calculate the different hit ratios of the memory and then check the amount of I/O occuring in ur system.
This is a proper way of tuning a DB and it is also an ongoing process so very first u must set some benchmarks that what u want to tune like in ur case u can say that i will something due to which those reports which r not performing well will work properly. It will really help u to break ur tuning efforts in different modules and after completing one by one ur DB will be getting tuned day by day.
