Hi All,

We need to migrate our oracle 8i server to 9i for our production system. But I'm evaluating the options I have and want to pick the most efficient way to do it. Here is the situation I face: We want to move our current production database which is running 8i to a new window server box running 9i. Should I migrate the current 8i to 9i on the same current server and then think about moving everything to the 9i instance running on the different server? Or should I build the 9i instance on the new server and think of a way how to move the 8i data to the 9i instance? Anybody has any suggestions or advices? Thanks a lot!

you can use ODMA ( install 9i in the same server, migrate to a new home)
or
run the conventional upgrade scripts to upgrade to 9i
or
install 9i database in another machine.
create similiar users and tablespaces as in 8i database.
create tnsconnnetion between 8i and 9i databases
export 8i database using 8i exp.
import into 9i datatbase using 8i imp ( idea is to use the lowest version).
