Here is file coming from cobol, i need to automize this file and load into oracle, i need to replace this special character with "&#124" or "," any help is appreciated.. using unix or oracle

simplest method is to use the search and replace method available in any common editor.
use a vi editor ( fastest)
or 
just a notepad ( slowest)

I cannot vi bcoz its giving me too long line error when i try to vi.. and search and replace, i cannot do that bcoz i cannot type that character its not there on keyboard. please neeed help really badly on this.. i don't know what am going to do

what kind of special characters?
still you can produce certain characters fromt the key board, like this

`▌α ◙ ╦ █ ☻ ç

but would be a bit tiresome to map it.
try to cure it in cobol iteself

Dear sir,
problem here is all other branch groups have written scripts for it and they have automized it, its only the our group haven't done yet.. so its immposible to get a good file from cobol.. it can be done with 'tr' it seems..

to replace the special characters, you no need to type it, just copy it & paste it in 'find&replace' window box. in fact, here am copied those characters and pasted here instead of searching for ascii number and all.
