My oracle database is in WinNT.How can i shutdown and then again start the DB
from a remote machine..like startup pfile=????
where it should point..will it work like
startup pfile = \machinenamed:oracleadmindbnameinitsid.ora
Its not working this way..Pls let me know from the experts

You could use the initsid.ora file from the server copying it to your local machine, let's say pfile=c:tmpinitsid.ora.

either you can use a terminal services or REMOTE ACCESS TOOLS like PCanywhere to acces the remote NT machine directly, so that you the toggle the database manually from the command line
or
Configure your OEM.
using oem console, you can restart the database.
