hello,
First of all make sure that it is XP - Professional edition . Otherwise u cannot install oracle8i on it.
Next if u r machine is P4 .. then dump the oracle cd into u r harddrive .. search for the file symcjit.dll and Rename that files to symcjit.old and then start the Installation from u r local setup ...
If u have any specfic problems let me know..

it almost kills me, i thought i got viruses, and reformat for more than 5 times !!!!!!!!!
finally i knew its idiot P4 problem........
