this syntax work only for 9i~
it is wierd...why it is NOT writing to UDUMP..
u sure the permissions are OK in udump?
can oracle "touch" a file in UDUMP?

mag@essbasetrainer_test9i > ed
Wrote file afiedt.buf

  1* alter database backup controlfile to trace as 'c:file.ora'
mag@essbasetrainer_test9i > /
