Oracle port for Solaris (UNIX) was the second one after the first one on VMS. It has been since 1976 and is rock solid. Windows version came later on.

Oracle for UNIX takes advantage of the 64-bit OS for almost every UNIX paltform, and even the 64-bit version of Oracle is available. That means SGA can grow more than 2 Gb limit with 32-bit Oracle version.

Currently if you are trying to run box with more than 4 CPU's (Windows limitation) you have to run UNIX. That makes a lots of sense if you are deploying RAC.

And unless you are maniac and enjoy applying security patches every week - UNIX will be the logical choise...
